The number of travellers entering and leaving Iraq is expected to increase substantially over the course of the next few decades. This may pose increased threats from wanted individuals and terrorists crossing the Iraqi borders. The SSR and the stabilization efforts currently taking place in the country require a more effective border control management in place. GS-Foundation is organizing a workshop that would address the possible border security loopholes, which may be used by criminals and terrorist groups. The workshop aims at enhancing Iraqi capabilities in controlling national borders using a comprehensive approach. The workshop demonstrates that such a comprehensive approach would be much more effective than relying solely on external sources to obtain passenger data for national security purposes.
