We are pleased to announce that the implementation of the Community-Policing-Engagement-Pilot Project in Abuja, Nigeria, has been officially approved by the Inspector General of Police (IGP)! As a joint initiative of the GS-Foundation and the National Police Force (NPF) , in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), this project introduces community policing, fostering a close partnership and cooperative efforts between the NPF and local residents of Garki.
This project aims to not only improve security conditions but also strengthen public trust in the NPF and enhance their reputation by effectively reducing crime through collaborative community efforts.
By equipping the police force with modern tools, providing specialized training and on-site-support, the project will enhance the police’s ability to respond effectively to community concerns and integrate the crime branch more efficiently into everyday policing.
Our Goals:
- Improve public perception: Strengthen the visibility of the police and improve their image within the community through transparent, accessible, and proactive engagement.
- Increase trust: Build a foundation of trust between citizens and the police, fostering a sense of security and cooperation.
- Effective integration of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID): Ensure the CID works seamlessly with community policing efforts, improving investigation effectiveness and response times to criminal activities.
We look forward to collaborating with the National Police Force and local communities to create lasting change. The upcoming surveys in Garki will be our first activity, and we encourage strong participation from the community. More updates to come!
