Community Policing Workshop in Garki

Last week, a workshop on Community Policing took place in Nigeria, organized by Georg Partenheimer from the GS-Foundation. Key attendees included AIG Muhammed Ali and CP Robert Clemens from the Department of Research and Planning, Head and members from PRS (Police Reform Secretary).

Garki was selected as the project site due to its diverse social landscape. Nine locations for mobile police stations were identified, with equipment and training to be provided based on the GS-F’s budget.

Discussions included the deployment of Nigerian Police Force personnel and the potential use of existing police posts as contact points. Initially, there was agreement on the philosophy and definition of Community Policing, with discussions covering aspects such as community partnership, problem-solving, and change management.

A working group will be formed to address these issues and meet weekly. We are excited about the ongoing process!
