In December 2024, we proudly celebrated the successful completion of a transformative project aimed at strengthening Moldova’s border security. What began as a collaborative initiative in February 2023—between the Moldovan Border Police, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the German Federal Foreign Office—has now significantly enhanced Moldova’s ability to monitor and secure its borders.
A Strategic Priority for Moldova
Why is this project so important? Moldova’s strategic location—bordering both Ukraine and Romania—makes border security a critical concern. The rising threats of cross-border crime and the increasing use of drones by criminal actors have made advanced surveillance technology essential to maintaining border security.
Innovation in Border Monitoring
The project resulted in the establishment of an Aerial Monitoring Unit (AMU), equipped with cutting-edge UAV technology (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), satellite imagery, and anti-drone systems. These tools provide a modernized, more effective approach to monitoring and controlling Moldova’s borders.
But this project wasn’t only about advanced technology. It was also about empowering people. Moldovan officers underwent extensive training, ensuring they were fully equipped not only to operate the new systems but to securely handle the data they collect.
Building Stronger International Partnerships
The completion of this project demonstrates the value of international partnerships in creating lasting security solutions. By enhancing Moldova’s border surveillance capabilities, this collaboration doesn’t just protect Moldova—it contributes to the broader regional stability.
This project marks a significant milestone in Moldova’s ongoing efforts to secure its borders, protect its citizens, and ensure safety in the region. We are proud to have played a role in this achievement and look forward to further collaboration in the future.
