Participation in the 3rd Demine Ukraine Forum: Advancing Humanitarian Demining in Ukraine

On 5 December, we participated in the 3rd Demine Ukraine Forum in Kyiv, one of the most important international events dedicated to humanitarian demining in Ukraine. The forum brought together more than 500 representatives from government institutions, manufacturers, innovators, civil society organisations and international partners.

Our participants were Yelyzaveta Kuzmich, Frank Abel, and Yuriy Megera, who engaged in discussions on current challenges, operational realities and future solutions in humanitarian demining.

Ukraine: The Most Heavily Mined Country in the World

Ukraine is currently considered the most heavily mined country worldwide. Large areas of land remain contaminated by landmines and unexploded ordnance, affecting agriculture, infrastructure and residential areas. This contamination continues to endanger civilian lives and significantly delays safe return, reconstruction and economic recovery.

Humanitarian demining is therefore a fundamental prerequisite for restoring safety, enabling reconstruction and supporting long-term stability across the country.

The Importance of International Cooperation

The Demine Ukraine Forum highlighted that the scale and complexity of mine contamination cannot be addressed by individual actors alone. Effective humanitarian demining requires close cooperation between national authorities, international partners, technology providers, humanitarian organisations and civil society.

Through shared expertise, innovation and coordination, demining efforts can become safer, more efficient and scalable to the needs on the ground.

Exchange, Networking and Impact

The forum provided an important platform for dialogue and exchange. Meaningful conversations, the sharing of experiences and the building of strong international connections were central outcomes of the event. These networks are essential for translating strategic discussions into practical action and measurable impact.

The 3rd Demine Ukraine Forum once again demonstrated both the magnitude of the challenge and the strong commitment of the international community. Humanitarian demining remains a cornerstone for a safe, accessible and resilient Ukraine.
