Nearly one in three women worldwide experiences sexual violence, according to the World Health Organization. This sobering statistic underlines a global challenge that touches us all—and it is one that GS-Foundation is committed to addressing through the promotion of gender equality.
In Moldova, domestic violence is on the rise. In 2020, authorities received 12,970 notifications of domestic violence—over 1,100 more than in 2019 and nearly 2,000 more than in 2018 (UNDP Moldova, 2021). At GS-Foundation, our mission is to create safer communities and empower women through strategic partnerships and innovative initiatives.
Last week, we visited Moldova’s National Agency for the Prevention and Combat of Domestic Violence Against Women and Family Violence. Founded in 2024 under the Prime Minister’s mandate, the agency plays a crucial role by coordinating prevention efforts across ministries and security authorities. It also leads the National Action Plan 2023-2027 for the Istanbul Convention.
During our visit, we engaged in a meaningful discussion with the Agency’s Director and learned about innovative initiatives, including a long-term training program for professionals focused on victim protection, resilience-building, and centralized data collection. We are honored to be invited to future Coordination Council meetings and look forward to deepening our partnership to drive lasting change.
We were honored to welcome a delegation from Moldova, including President Maia Sandu and Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail‑Nichitin, to Munich. During our meaningful exchanges, we gained valuable insights into the future of security in an interconnected world.
