At the end of August, the newly established Police Reform Secretariat (PRS) in Nigeria, under the leadership of Prof. Olu Ogunsakin, invited the GS-Foundation to present its ongoing projects at a national press conference in Abuja. The PRS was created to give new direction and visibility to Nigeria’s police reform agenda and to strengthen cooperation with national and international partners.

The press conference marked the official introduction of the Secretariat’s mandate and its partners. In front of a wide national media presence, the GS-Foundation had the opportunity to explain how its current projects contribute to modernising the Nigerian Police Force and to advancing reform efforts. Alongside the GS-Foundation, the German Federal Foreign Office – represented by the Embassy – and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) also outlined their engagement.

For the GS-Foundation, the invitation was both an honour and a confirmation of the trust placed in its expertise. It highlighted the strong partnerships that have been built with Nigerian institutions and international organisations, and the momentum that is currently driving reform processes forward.
The presence of numerous journalists ensured that the message reached a broad audience. In the days following the press conference, reports appeared in many national media outlets. One of the most detailed features was broadcast by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), with reporter Francis Fom covering the event and interviewing key participants. Other outlets, including Aljazirah Nigeria, also reported extensively.

Thanks to this visibility, the GS-Foundation’s role as a cooperation partner in Nigerian police reform has gained wider public recognition.
