Advanced training in Ankara and Istanbul boosts Moldova’s technical capacity in forensic voice identification and analysis.
From 16 to 27 June 2025, three specialists from the Centre for Technical-Scientific Examinations of the Moldovan Police (CTCEJ) participated in a phonoscopic training programme in Turkey. Organised by the GS-Foundation, the study visit took place at the Gendarmerie Forensic Departments in Ankara and Istanbul.
The course focused on voice as forensic evidence. Participants received theoretical input and practical exercises in:
- Forensic speaker comparison and voice authentication
- Acoustic-phonetic analysis: pitch, resonance, formants
- Spectrogram-based auditory and visual interpretation
- Use of iZotope RX 11, PRAAT, Adobe Audition and Phonexia Voice Inspector
- Design and validation of voice databases for forensic casework
The sessions were led by the Head of the Gendarmerie’s Phonoscopic Laboratory, and his team. Participants Nicolae Moloșag, Cristina Zara and Cristina Șendrea will conduct internal training at CTCEJ to share the acquired knowledge.
The visit reinforced cross-border cooperation in applied forensic science.
The study trip was funded by the German Federal Foreign Office as part of its support for capacity building in the security sector.
