Train-the-Trainer: Multiplying Impact in Nigeria’s Police Reform

In May and June 2025, 64 officers of the Nigerian Police Force participated in training on community policing and crisis intervention. Based on an agreement with Divisional Police Officer Mohammed Ahmodu, selected participants are now sharing this knowledge with colleagues through in-house training programmes.

This “train-the-trainer” approach ensures sustainability: knowledge is multiplied and embedded in daily police practice. At the forefront are Assistant Superintendents (ASPs) of Police Tolani and Salma, who are currently conducting these internal trainings with remarkable passion and commitment.

As ASP Tolani put it: “I will continue to uphold the values and principles your organization embodies and I look forward to achieving even greater impact together.”

To reinforce the impact of the training, GS-Foundation experts Georg Partenheimer and Harald Wolff provide ongoing support to the emergency services on site. This on-site support is not an examination, but rather practical assistance. The aim is to integrate new content and methods into everyday police work and to strengthen public confidence in the long term.

These efforts highlight how community-oriented policing in Nigeria is becoming reality. Shaped by officers themselves, for the benefit of their communities.
