GIZ – Federal Foreign Office – The Gambia – Improving National Police Structures

The GS Foundation’s team in the field produced a series of tailored recommendations as to how to improve the capacities of the Gambian police following a ten-day assessment mission.

The investigation of sexual and domestic violence crimes and the required victim protection will be an integral element of the basic training for new police recruits. Our engagement aims to build a police force that can assume its core responsibilities towards the Gambian people.

Our experts designed a practical handbook for police officers that will guide them in their daily work with victims of crimes, witnesses and suspects, including these groups’ specific rights and obligations. The handbook also covers areas of police work related to interview techniques, crime scene investigation and traffic controls.
