The GS-Foundation is once again featured on NTA News: the 6th Train-the-Trainer course for Gender Desk Officers of the Nigerian Police Force is taking place in Abuja from 25–29 August 2025.
This five-day training focuses on strengthening the police response to gender-based violence (GBV). Gender Desk Officers play a vital role in supporting survivors, yet they often face structural challenges in their work.
“Together we want to create an environment where every individual, regardless of gender, is respected, feels safe and is protected from sexual violence” emphasized Peter Heepen, Project Coordinator at the GS-Foundation.
In partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Gender Units of the Nigerian Police Force, the GS-Foundation supports the empowerment of these officers. A key element: participants are being trained as multipliers, cascading their knowledge to colleagues across the South-South Zone.
“The training enables participants to return to their units and support fellow Gender Desk Officers nationwide,” added Uwe Heller of the GS-Foundation.
This initiative contributes to the implementation of the Police Reform Roadmap and promotes a policing culture built on respect, safety, and equality.
