On 26 September 2026, the Border Marathon 2026 brought together representatives of the Moldovan Border Police and other security institutions, citizens, families and partner organisations in Moldova’s southern border region. Through its EQUALFORCE project, the GS-Foundation supported the event, which promoted inclusion, gender equality and stronger connections between security institutions and local communities.
Promoting Gender Equality and Women’s Participation
The Border Marathon provided a platform to raise awareness of the importance of equal participation and inclusion within security institutions and society.
With its focus on Women, Peace and Security (WPS), the event closely aligned with the objectives of EQUALFORCE, which aims to strengthen gender equality and promote women’s meaningful participation in the security sector.
By encouraging the involvement of women, families and representatives of different security institutions, the marathon highlighted the importance of inclusive participation and shared responsibility in building safer and more resilient communities.
Strengthening Cooperation Between Security Institutions and Communities
Beyond its sporting dimension, the Border Marathon offered an opportunity to bring security professionals and members of the public together in an informal and inclusive environment.
The participation of representatives from various security institutions, alongside citizens and families, helped promote dialogue, mutual understanding and stronger connections between institutions and the communities they serve.
For the GS-Foundation, the event also provided an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation with the Moldovan Border Police, particularly in the areas of gender equality and Women, Peace and Security. At the same time, it enabled EQUALFORCE to engage with representatives of other security institutions and increase awareness of the importance of equal participation.
Supporting Inclusive and Community-Oriented Security
Through its support for the Border Marathon 2026, the GS-Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting gender equality, inclusion and cooperation between security institutions and civil society.
Initiatives such as the Border Marathon demonstrate how shared activities can create opportunities for dialogue, strengthen community engagement and increase the visibility of women’s participation in the security sector.
Through EQUALFORCE, the GS-Foundation continues to support efforts to strengthen inclusive, responsive and community-oriented security institutions in the Republic of Moldova.
