Strengthening forensic capacity in Moldova with new spectrometer technology

Handover of the M4 Tornado Plus spectrometer to GPI in Moldova, with a demonstration of the device's operation. The procurement was facilitated by the GS-Foundation.

At the end of September, the GS-F handed over a modern laboratory spectrometer to the General Police Inspectorate (GPI) of the Republic of Moldova. The equipment will enhance the capabilities of the GPI’s forensic laboratory by enabling precise chemical analysis of samples collected during investigations.

Spectrometers help experts identify unknown substances such as narcotics, chemical residues, paints, fibers or trace materials, all crucial evidence in solving complex cases.

The handover is part of a broader cooperation project funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, supporting the modernization of forensic infrastructure and evidence-based policing in Moldova.

“Forensic science is a cornerstone of modern policing. This new technology will help Moldovan experts conduct faster and more accurate analyses. Especially in court proceedings against drug dealers, the composition of the drugs can be proven. This closes an important gap in the fight against drug-related crime.” said a GS-F representative.

This initiative continues GS-F’s long-term support for Moldova’s security institutions, promoting professional exchange and technological advancement.
