On 28 July 2026, the GS-Foundation, together with its partner Fanal Solutions, officially presented the 2026 Evaluation Report on the Community Policing Intervention in Garki, Abuja. The report assesses the impact of one year of project implementation and provides valuable evidence on the effectiveness of community-oriented policing measures in strengthening trust, improving public safety, and enhancing cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and the communities it serves.
A Comprehensive Assessment of Project Impact
The evaluation examined the project’s core components, including the establishment of Smart Police Stations, Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) training for police officers, Medical Outreach activities, and the Play4Trust initiative. By combining institutional capacity building with active community engagement, the intervention aimed to improve police service delivery while fostering stronger relationships between law enforcement agencies and local communities.
Measurable Improvements in Trust and Safety
The evaluation demonstrates measurable progress across several key indicators. 82% of residents reported a more positive perception of the police, while 81.9% stated that they feel safer in their daily lives. In addition, 70.5% expressed increased trust in the Nigeria Police Force following the implementation of the project.
The evaluation also highlights the project’s impact on police capacities. 95.2% of trained police officers reported confidence in applying professional Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) procedures in their daily work. At the same time, the Smart Police Stations have become visible and accessible contact points where community members can report crimes and seek assistance.
These findings underline the importance of community-oriented policing as a sustainable approach to strengthening public security. They demonstrate that long-term investment in professional police capacities, combined with meaningful engagement with local communities, can contribute to improved trust, greater accountability, and more effective policing.

Beyond measuring project outcomes, the evaluation provides an important evidence base for the continued development and potential replication of similar initiatives in other regions. Reliable data and independent analysis are essential for identifying lessons learned and ensuring that future interventions build on proven approaches.
