BSDA 2026 – the Black Sea Defence, Aerospace and Security Exhibition – took place in Bucharest, Romania, from 13 to 15 May 2026. This international trade fair is one of the most significant events in the defence, aerospace and security sectors in Central and Eastern Europe, bringing together companies, government agencies, military delegations and technology providers from around the world.
The GS-Foundation was also represented at the event alongside a delegation from Moldova. The main aim of the visit was to facilitate professional exchange on current security and defence technologies, as well as to evaluate potential future collaborations with Romanian partner institutions.
Focus on modern drone defence systems
A key focus of the visit was the assessment of modern drone defence systems. Given the increasing importance of unmanned systems in current conflict and security situations, discussions and presentations focused in particular on technologies for the detection, surveillance and defence against drones.
The exhibition offered a comprehensive overview of current developments and innovative solutions in the field of security and defence technologies. Direct exchanges with manufacturers and experts also provided valuable insights into current technological standards and future developments.
Insights into forensic and criminal investigation laboratories
In addition, the delegation visited various specialised laboratories and facilities in the fields of DNA analysis, forensics and crime scene investigation. The insights into modern criminal investigation and forensic procedures facilitated an in-depth exchange on operational procedures, technical capabilities and potential areas of application within international security and investigative structures.
The visit particularly highlighted the importance of modern analysis and investigation technologies for international cooperation in the security sector.
Networking and international exchange
In addition to technological topics, personal and institutional exchange played a central role. Discussions with Romanian colleagues and partners served to build sustainable networks and facilitate the mutual exchange of experiences in the fields of security, digitalisation and technological infrastructure.
The BSDA 2026 provided a suitable framework for deepening existing contacts and initiating new collaborations.
Prospects for future collaboration
The discussions also highlighted potential for possible bilateral cooperation. In the future, joint projects and collaborations in the field of security and defence technologies could emerge.
However, this requires a further review and assessment of existing IT systems as well as technical capabilities and structures. The visit to Bucharest thus represented an important first step towards further technical exchange and potential future partnerships.
International cooperation continues to grow in importance
BSDA 2026 once again highlighted the growing importance of international cooperation and technological innovation in the security and defence sector. For the GS-Foundation and the Moldovan delegation, the event provided a valuable platform for establishing new contacts, exchanging expertise and exploring potential future collaborations.
