Successful Completion of the Leadership Course 2026 Strengthens Leadership Capacities within the Nigeria Police Force

The Leadership Course 2026 concluded successfully with a formal closing ceremony at the National Institute for Police Studies (NIPS) in Abuja. During the ceremony, the Commissioner of Police, Department of Training and Development (CP DTD) presented certificates to 35 officers of the Nigeria Police Force, including 15 female participants, who successfully completed the intensive two-week training programme. Conducted from 13 to 24 July 2026, the course brought together international and Nigerian expertise to strengthen modern leadership capacities and support the ongoing reform process within the Nigeria Police Force.

Focus on Change Management and Modern Police Leadership

The programme was delivered by two international and two Nigerian trainers and placed a strong emphasis on Change Management, equipping participants with practical tools to lead organisational change within the Nigeria Police Force. In addition, the curriculum addressed key topics including leadership, human rights, and community policing, providing participants with knowledge and skills directly applicable to their daily responsibilities as police leaders.

Through interactive discussions, practical exercises and the exchange of professional experience, participants were encouraged to translate theory into practice and develop effective leadership approaches for today’s policing challenges.

Positive Feedback Highlights Practical Relevance

Participants evaluated the course very positively, particularly praising its strong practical orientation and the immediate applicability of the training content to their professional duties. The overwhelmingly positive feedback demonstrates the value of combining international expertise with local knowledge to deliver sustainable and practice-oriented training.

Contributing to Sustainable Police Reform

By strengthening leadership competencies at the operational level, the Leadership Course 2026 makes an important contribution to the ongoing professionalisation and reform efforts of the Nigeria Police Force. Investing in capable leaders supports effective, transparent and people-centred policing and helps build resilient institutions that can respond to evolving security challenges.
