Strengthening the Fight Against Gender-Based Violence: GS-Foundation Donates Gender Desk Laboratory to Bauchi State Police Command

The GS-Foundation has donated a fully equipped Gender Desk Laboratory to the Bauchi State Police Command as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening security institutions and improving the response to gender-based violence (GBV) in Nigeria.

The official handover ceremony took place on 25 June 2026 at the Bauchi State Police Command Headquarters on Yandoka Road, Bauchi. Representing the GS-Foundation, Edidiong Jones Obot and ThankGod Umaje formally presented the laboratory and its equipment to the Command.

Supporting Professional and Victim-Centred Policing

The Bauchi State Police Command was selected as the beneficiary of this initiative in recognition of its dedicated efforts to combat gender-based violence and related offences across Nigeria’s North-East geopolitical zone. Through this contribution, the GS-Foundation seeks to strengthen the operational capacity of the Police Gender Unit, enabling officers to investigate cases more effectively while providing professional, survivor-centred support to victims.

The newly established Gender Desk Laboratory has been equipped with modern technology and essential office infrastructure, including desktop computers, a laptop, a multifunction printer, a data-projecting television, internet connectivity, a camera, a solar inverter system, air conditioners, office furniture, and additional investigative equipment. Together, these resources will improve case management, facilitate evidence collection and documentation, and enhance the overall working environment for Gender Unit personnel.

A Shared Commitment to Justice

The equipment was officially received by the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, who expressed his sincere appreciation to the GS-Foundation for its support. He commended the Foundation’s contribution to strengthening institutional capacity and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating gender-based violence throughout Bauchi State.

CP Aliyu also pledged that the Gender Desk Laboratory would be properly maintained and effectively utilized to improve investigations, strengthen justice delivery, and provide better protection and support for survivors of gender-based violence.

Strengthening Partnerships for Safer Communities

The Bauchi State Police Command further reiterated its commitment to working closely with civil society organisations, development partners, and other stakeholders to promote safety, dignity, and access to justice for all citizens.

For the GS-Foundation, this initiative reflects its broader mission of advancing Security Sector Reform (SSR) through practical partnerships that strengthen institutional capacity, promote accountability, and reinforce respect for human rights. By investing in modern infrastructure and supporting professional policing, the Foundation continues to contribute to more resilient security institutions and safer communities across Nigeria.

The establishment of the Gender Desk Laboratory in Bauchi represents another important step towards improving the response to gender-based violence and ensuring that survivors receive the protection, professionalism, and access to justice they deserve.
