“Dad at the border – hero at home”: Equalforce II strengthens families and promotes positive fatherhood in the Republic of Moldova

To mark International Father’s Day, a special event was held in the pilot region of Ștefan Vodă under the motto “Dad at the border – hero at home” (𝐓𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐥𝐚 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐚̆ – 𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐮 𝐬̦𝐢 𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐚̆). The initiative was aimed at members of the border police and their families, and highlighted the importance of family values and the active role fathers play in their children’s lives.

The event offered participating families the opportunity to spend time together, share experiences and enjoy moments together. The focus was on strengthening family ties and promoting a balance between professional responsibilities and family life.

High-ranking representatives emphasise the importance of the family

The event was attended by senior officials from the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, as well as the State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Moldova, Diana Salcu Salan.

In their welcoming remarks, they emphasised the central importance of the family as a source of support for employees in the security sector. At the same time, they highlighted the important role of fathers in the upbringing and development of their children and emphasised how crucial work-life balance is for the well-being of staff and their families.

Contribution to the Women, Peace and Security Agenda

The event was organised as part of the Equalforce II project as a community-based initiative under the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda.

By focusing on positive fathering roles, family resilience and the prevention of domestic violence, the initiative makes an important contribution to promoting gender equality and social cohesion. At the same time, it supports the development of a modern and resilient security sector in which the well-being of staff and their families is recognised as an essential component of sustainable reform processes.

Strengthening families – developing security sectors sustainably

The Equalforce II project aims to promote gender equality and inclusion within security institutions whilst strengthening relations between security agencies and the population. Initiatives such as ‘Dad at the Border – Hero at Home’ illustrate that sustainable security sector reforms encompass not only institutional changes but also the promotion of strong families, positive role models and resilient communities.
