From 19 to 22 May 2026, a delegation from the General Police Inspectorate (GPI) of Moldova, together with staff from the GS-Foundation, took part in GPEC – the General Police Equipment Exhibition & Conference – in Leipzig. GPEC is regarded as Europe’s largest dedicated trade fair for internal security and is aimed exclusively at members of the police, security, customs, judicial and armed forces, as well as other state security authorities.
Targeted information gathering and professional exchange
The study trip focused on conducting a specialist supplier survey and engaging in intensive discussions on current technological developments in the field of security and police work. In close consultation with the delegation members, specific areas of interest were defined in advance to ensure that discussions with manufacturers and exhibitors were as targeted as possible and to gather relevant information on innovative products and solutions.
The aim was to gain a comprehensive overview of current technical developments and to identify potential approaches for future needs and requirements. Engaging directly with manufacturers and specialist suppliers provided detailed insight into products, technologies and potential applications.
Key topics of the study trip
During the trade fair visit, the delegation focused in particular on current developments in the fields of data collection, data evaluation and data analysis, as well as on modern solutions for drone reconnaissance, drone defence and the protection of public authorities and agencies against attacks and espionage attempts. Another focus was on forensic technologies and new approaches to crime scene investigation. Both modern methods for the admissible evaluation of evidence and mobile laboratory and vehicle solutions for forensic investigations were presented.
In addition, participants learned about options for physically shielding electronic devices against radio connections, tracking and data interception. Covert surveillance and communication technologies, modern protective and functional clothing, as well as innovative vehicle and transport solutions for operational assets were also the focus of discussions.
Visit to GPEC 2026
The exhibition covers all areas of internal security, law enforcement, border control, and civil and homeland security. In addition to traditional exhibition stands, it offers specialist conferences, practical training and testing areas, as well as a wide range of opportunities for direct exchange with manufacturers and users.
The delegation was impressed by the high professional standard of the exhibition, its specialisation in public sector users, and the wide range of technologies and products on display. The participants particularly highlighted the practical benefits of the exhibition and rated the opportunity for direct exchange with manufacturers and experts as extremely valuable.
Results and Outlook
During the exhibition, a wealth of information materials was gathered, and contacts with manufacturers and exhibitors were established and strengthened. The insights gained provide important impetus for the future evaluation of technical solutions and the identification of specific requirements.
The delegation’s positive feedback confirms the high added value of GPEC as a platform for professional exchange, international networking and monitoring technological developments. Due to its unique specialisation, the exhibition will continue to play an important role in tracking current innovations in the field of internal security and identifying new approaches to existing challenges.
